Super Secret Liam Pants needs surgery. I’ve known that he wasn’t breathing right through his nose. Eric and I both saw this. The one week we turned off his humidifier at night landed us in the ER where he was given epinephrine, steroids, and breathing treatments.
Our pediatrician didn’t think his breathing was too much to be concerned with and before we all get on the dump the pediatrician band wagon I LOVE our pediatrician and from what I found out yesterday it wasn’t his fault nothing was done sooner. SSLP wasn’t turning blue and he had adapted to not breathing right, weird I know. The boy takes being uncomfortable and not showing it to a whole new level.
After meeting with a Speech Pathologist for his language delay from being a preemie she noted she thought he wasn’t breathing right through his nose so this is why his mouth was always open and he was a drooling fool. That Monday I called the Pediatric ENT who snipped SSLP’s tongue at a week old and we went in yesterday. I’m not a bad mom for waiting, he never did turn blue, didn’t act like he was in pain or uncomfortable, and seemed content. My husbands family has sinus problems so until we realized he couldn’t breathe through his nose from really watching I didn’t feel the need to rush in. Now I had reason to get in right away.
Yesterday after having this little camera so thin and long put up his nose we find that his adenoids are blocking 90% of his nose and ear passage way causing fluid in his ears so not only can he not breathe but he’s not hearing us correctly. He can hear but muffled. Not only that but his tonsils are naturally large so….
Surgery to remove the adenoids and tonsils plus tubes in his ears to help drain the fluid. I cried, yep…I called my husband and cried.
I’ve never had my tonsils out but I hear it can be quite painful. He’s having not just his tonsils but the adenoids removed as well. He’s two, he can’t talk so he’s not going to be able to really express himself.
We will get through this. He’s so independent. He’s such a smart boy. We heard and knew that he’s a typical two year old but he just can’t talk right. With all that’s going on in his little head no wonder he can’t talk right.
What I hope and know will come from this is that SSLP will be able to breathe with his mouth closed. Not take breaks when drinking things and will talk before we all know it. I’m looking forward to no humidifier on at night and to him sleeping while breathing perfectly.
I was right on this one, so was Eric. I’m glad this is being taken care of now because even though he will be uncomfortable he won’t remember this when he’s older…..I hope.
