In my quest to be dairy free due to a lovely condition called PCOS I’ve found the following…..
1. If it’s raw, it’s dairy free.
2. If it’s a fresh veggie or fruit, it’s dairy free.
3. If it’s easy to cook with say pressed garlic, it’s got dairy in it. WTH, right? How can pressed garlic have dairy and why would you want it to? I mean on all levels I never thought I would see that.
4. If it’s “Fast Food” and “Convenient”, it’s got dairy in it.
5. Churros at Disneyland have dairy…butter…sad…because it’s also gluten but I used to be able to use this treat as my “cheat” because it is Disneyland and all BUT no more. Sad Kat (seriously)
6. Jelly Belly’s do not have dairy or gluten in them BUT Bee’s Wax coats them and I’m on the fence if that creeps me out or not.
7. Canned soup contains dairy, a lot of them, and gluten so even the ones without gluten I checked had dairy…Really?
8. If you aren’t prepared you can end up eating dairy and not realizing it. That doesn’t make you a failure BUT helps you to prepare yourself in the future. I repeat…if it’s easy it usually has dairy.
9. Vegan cheese is gross, so far and not worth the money. No cheese is no cheese.
10. When going out for the day bring back up food. Remember easy equals dairy and to ensure there isn’t a starving Kat I have to bring food with me.
OK so that’s enough information for now. I stopped at Bristol Farms last night because they carry my favorite use on everything salsa from “Heidi’s” and picked up some lunches for the rest of the week. raw veggies, quinoa, and some gluten free nuggets that are also dairy free.
I’ve prepared dinner for tonight and the chicken is marinating and the spinach will be ready too and I know because I’m preparing it that it’s gluten and yes, dairy free.
This is a process I’m finding. It’s not like me giving up diet coke and artificial sweeteners. That part of the last almost two weeks was easy…so far but this has been so much harder and I’m finding I’m educating myself so much more. So maybe it’s not so much drama but lessons and great ones at that….still can’t get over dairy in pressed garlic…gross.
I’m learning more and more. It’s like when I gave up Gluten, I had to learn what I could and couldn’t eat. One day my post will read…I’ve mastered being Dairy Free.
