I have been known to buy the drink for the car behind me at Starbucks and that is it.  A random act of kindness.  No one needs to know about it, it’s done. If you are in the car with me you are the only one who knows who got the drink for the driver behind me.

Recently on two occasions I was able to see it grow, the random act of kindness turn into something more.  Was nice to see it grow.  I still enjoy being Anonymous.  I think that’s the point of the act.  Doing something for someone and they’d never expect it.

First was at dinner recently.  A woman sitting at the booth next to us was eating alone and it’s the holidays and she had SSLP in the booth next to her being his usual loud self so I paid her bill and told the waiter to just tell her Happy Holidays.  That was to be it.  My husband ordered Deep Fried Ice Cream because it’s so healthy and when it was brought to our table they said “On the house”.  We never expected free ice cream but it was nice.  One nice turn for another.

This story though nice wasn’t the one that really made me happy.  Don’t get me wrong I was happy BUT…I get coffee (maybe too much) at a Starbucks in Malibu on my way to work.  I bought the lady behind me her drink.  She was shocked that someone would do that when she obviously could pay BUT she bought the order for the man behind her and he bought the order for the man behind him and you get my point.  Not everyone was buying the same size drinks but they kept buying for each other.  I’ve never seen it happen that way.

I’ve never seen what happens period because I don’t expect the car behind me to buy someone else’s drink, I’m just being me.  I’ve been given so much that I do in little ways because sometimes people are having crappy days and it’s the little things that matter.

Remember that today.  Do something kind for someone and see how you feel after.  Don’t go announcing it to the world because then your boasting BUT I bet that person will have a moment or two of happiness and you never know.  You may be behind me at Starbucks or some other random place one day and I’ll get your order for you.

(PS, not boasting just sharing that it was (a) nice to see what could happen and (b) to let everyone know it makes you feel good too when you do something kind for someone)
